John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on Ghanaians to vote out the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming elections due to severe economic hardships.
Speaking to supporters in Ayawaso East, he used the rising price of Kenkey, a traditional Ghanaian dish, as a symbol of the current government’s failure to manage the economy effectively.
Mahama criticized the NPP’s handling of living costs, recalling how they previously accused his administration of poor economic management while noting that conditions have worsened under their rule.
He urged voters to make their voices heard, asserting that the NPP’s policies have not benefited most Ghanaians, leading to rising food prices and declining living standards.
Mahama emphasized the need for a change in leadership to alleviate these burdens, highlighting that Kenkey prices have surged from GH¢1 to GH¢20 for three balls with fish.
His remarks resonate with his earlier statements during a campaign rally in Bodi, where he similarly addressed the significant rise in food prices as indicative of government failure.
