Mahama mocks Akufo-Addo, saying that the 2024 election is about change rather than swaps.

John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for inaugurating interchanges ahead of the December 7 elections.

He highlighted a 2016 social media post by NPP member Gabby Otchere-Darko, who urged voters to prioritize economic issues over infrastructure projects, calling the current government’s actions contradictory.

Mahama’s remarks followed the inauguration of key road projects, including the Flowerpot and Obetsebi Lamptey interchanges, by President Akufo-Addo. During his campaign in Bawaleshie, he expressed frustration over the NPP’s previous criticisms of his administration regarding infrastructure development, stating, “This election is about change and not an interchange.”
He emphasized that the focus should be on pressing issues such as unemployment and economic hardship, asserting that the NPP has failed to improve Ghanaians’ lives over eight years.

Mahama argued that while interchanges are important, they should not distract voters from addressing the broader challenges facing the country. His comments reflect a strategic effort to redirect the narrative towards his campaign’s core messages of change and accountability.
