The Ghana Police Service has announced road diversions in Accra ahead of the final rallies of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) scheduled for this weekend. The move aims to ensure public safety and minimize traffic disruptions as thousands of supporters are expected to attend these major political events.
In a statement, the police outlined specific roads that will be temporarily closed or redirected to accommodate the rallies. Key areas affected include major routes leading to Independence Square, where the NPP will hold its event, and the Kwame Nkrumah Circle vicinity, the venue for the NDC’s rally. The diversions will begin from 6 a.m. on the rally day and remain in effect until the events conclude.
Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes and follow the directions of traffic officers deployed across the city. Commuters are also encouraged to plan their journeys in advance to avoid inconvenience.
The police further assured the public that adequate personnel will be stationed at strategic points to maintain order, ensure the free flow of traffic, and respond to any emergencies.
With the 2024 elections drawing closer, these rallies are expected to attract significant attention as both parties make final appeals to their supporters. The police urged political parties and attendees to cooperate fully to ensure a peaceful and incident-free day.
