Mumuni Rufai, a personal aide to Alhaji Hamza Faruk, the Executive Secretary of the Hajj Board and an NPP official, has been apprehended at the Aningazanga JSS polling station in the Bolgatanga Central constituency. He was reportedly caught with over 100 thumb-printed ballot papers.
The incident occurred while Rufai was in line to cast his vote. Vigilant polling agents from the NDC reportedly noticed suspicious behavior and requested law enforcement to conduct a search. Upon inspection, police found the thumb-printed ballot papers hidden within Rufai’s attire, specifically in a “jallabia” he was wearing.
The confiscated ballots, allegedly pre-marked in favor of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, sparked concerns about potential electoral fraud. Rufai was immediately detained and taken to the regional police headquarters for further investigation.
This incident has added tension to the already heated election process, with opposition parties calling for stringent measures to ensure fairness and transparency.
