We’ll audit recalled ballot booklets for Western and Eastern Regions before destruction – NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to conduct a comprehensive audit of recalled ballot booklets in the Western and Eastern Regions before their destruction. Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the party’s Director of Elections and IT, emphasized the need for transparency, citing the large volume of ballots involved. He stated, “Considering the volumes involved, the said destruction of ballot papers cannot take place today,” indicating that thorough oversight is essential to maintain electoral integrity.

This decision follows the Electoral Commission’s (EC) recall and reprint of ballot papers due to security seal breaches. The NDC’s audit aims to ensure all materials are accounted for and to restore public trust in the electoral process, which has been questioned in recent times.

Dr. Boamah expressed concerns over potential electoral malpractice, suggesting that past actions by the EC have eroded public confidence.
He reiterated that the NDC would closely monitor the situation, stating, “The Commission must never forget they lost our trust long ago.”

This proactive measure reflects the party’s commitment to safeguarding democratic principles as Ghana approaches its general elections on December 7, 2024. The NDC’s insistence on auditing every ballot booklet underscores their vigilance in ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process amidst rising tensions and allegations of misconduct.
