The Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Ghana, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has issued a stern warning to private security operatives ahead of the upcoming December 7 elections.
He emphasized that any interference in the electoral process by these groups will not be tolerated, asserting that the responsibility for maintaining peace and security during the elections lies solely with the police and authorized security personnel.
Dr. Dampare’s remarks come in light of recent violent incidents involving vigilante groups masquerading as private security, which have raised concerns about their impact on the electoral environment. He reiterated the commitment of the Ghana Police Service to ensure a peaceful election and cautioned that any attempts to disrupt this peace would be met with strict legal consequences.
The IGP’s statement underscores the importance of unity and cooperation among all security entities to safeguard Ghana’s democratic process during this critical period.
